Obtained VAP cholesterol profile after a perfect regular cholesterol test. It revealed even though the total, LDL & HDL numbers were normal on the regular test the LDL particle size was still in small range, Lp(a) was still elevated above normal range and HDL composition needed some work.
Bumped up to 2G Niacin, stay with it for another month and then recheck. I really like my cardiologist. He listens, is proactive and does not ignore my concerns. After 4 blockages I just want to get on protocol and take care of this.

Sorry for being gone so long!
Everything is moving forward and still plugging at the protocol to stop the progression of heart disease. I have not had any events since May 2008. Currently on 40 mg Simvistatin, 1G Niacin (switched to SloNiacin from WalMart since Niaspan was becoming so expensive) and last check liver enzymes all normal; cholesterol was 132; LDL 75; HDL 40.
Even though all in range checking Lp(a) and determining level of Niaspan is adequate to maintain very low levels of Lp(a) reduce LDL further and continue to raise HDL.

Niaspan has worked for me!
I have been on Niaspan 2G for sometime and it has dropped my Lp(a) dramatically....talk with your physician if you need that extra boost without having to up the statin drug. I believe taking a B vitamin which reduces cholesterol is better than more statins.
